There Are Things We Control, Things We Influence, and Things We Cannot Control

One of the most freeing realisations in life is understanding that not everything is within your control — and that this is not a weakness, but a form of wisdom. Much of human suffering comes from fighting battles the mind was never meant to win: trying to control people, outcomes, timing, or circumstances that lie beyond our authority.

You cannot control the world — but you can control yourself.

You control:

  • Your thoughts
  • Your mindset
  • Your beliefs
  • Your words
  • Your reactions
  • Your decisions
  • Your habits
  • Your faith

There are areas where you don’t have full control, but your actions still matter. You can influence:

  • Conversations
  • Relationships

Trying to control what was never meant to be controlled drains the mind and creates anxiety. You cannot control:

  • Other people’s choices
  • The past
  • Timing
  • Certain outcomes
  • External reactions
  • God’s plans

When you clearly distinguish between control, influence, and surrender, your thinking becomes stable. You stop overthinking. You stop worrying unnecessarily. You stop fighting invisible battles.

Instead, you focus on what matters:

  • Renewing your mind
  • Strengthening your faith

Life becomes lighter when your mind is disciplined. You no longer react emotionally to everything. You respond intentionally. You move forward without carrying unnecessary mental weight.
