Deliver me Oh God (Poem)

Deliver me, O God, from my foes so dire, Set me high above, from their schemes I’ll retire. Rescue me from those who practice sin’s ire, Save me from bloodthirsty men, fueling hell’s fire.

They lie in ambush, seeking to claim my life, Fierce and mighty, fueling hatred and strife. Not for my wrongdoing, nor for any sin rife, O Lord, they attack me, seeking to end my life.

They run to assail me, though guiltless am I, Awake, O Lord, let Your justice apply. See their wickedness, heed my earnest cry, Arise, Lord, and punish those who defy.

God of hosts, God of Israel, arise, To judge the nations, let Your justice surprise. Spare none who plot evil in treacherous guise, Let your righteous judgment cause evil to demise.

At evening, they return with howls of disdain, Around the city, like prowling wolves, they maintain. Their mouths spew insults, words of malice and pain, But You, O Lord, in scorn, their wickedness you restrain.

My God, my strength, I’ll watch for Your grace, In Your lovingkindness, I’ll find my place. You’ll grant me victory in this perilous chase, I’ll see my enemies fall, by Your hand they’ll face.

Do not kill them, or your people may forget, But scatter and wander, in their pride let them fret. Let curses and lies on their own heads be set, In wrath, Lord, destroy them, let them never reset.

Let them know that You rule over Jacob’s race, To the ends of the earth, Your glory we embrace. They return in the evening, their howling won’t erase, But You, our refuge, we’ll sing of Your grace.

They search for their food, growling through the night, Never satisfied, in their endless plight. But I’ll sing of Your strength in the morning light, O God, my stronghold, in Your lovingkindness, I’ll take flight.

To You, my God, my strength, my praise I’ll raise, In Your lovingkindness, I’ll offer my grateful gaze. You’re my refuge, my protector, all my days, In Your steadfast love, my heart forever stays. Amen
