Nevertheless Your Will not mine (Poem)

In the depths of prayer, in the quiet night,

 I plead with You, in need of Your light. 

Father, if You’re willing, remove this cup,

 Yet Your will be done, I lift it up.

As I reflect on this journey I’ve trod,

 It’s been an adventure, sometimes roughshod.

 At times, it feels like joy, other times pain,

 Especially when those close, betray, and feign.

When You reveal our enemies concealed,

 It stings, it hurts, like an open wound unhealed.

 Yet, in time, we grow accustomed to the strife,

 And act accordingly in the battle of life.

Those who should stand by us, plot our fall, 

It’s a bitter truth, a painful call.

 But in these moments, when the enemy’s near,

 We turn to You in faith, without fear.

Like our Savior Jesus, in Gethsemane’s hour,

 We ask if the cup may pass in fervent prayer.

 But deep down, in the depths of our soul,

 We say, “Nevertheless, Your will be our goal.”

For Your will, oh God, is our guiding light, 

In every trial, in every fight.

 So, as You order the steps of Your chosen ones,

 We surrender to Your will until the battle’s won.

Though the journey may be rough, the path unclear,

 We trust in Your plan, without doubt or fear.

 For, in the end, Your will be done, 

Nevertheless, Your will, not mine, be our song.
