Religious Complicity and the Justification of Evil

When injustice wears a crown and parades as divine will, it is not just political powers we must confront—it is the religious voices that sanctify the crime. In the third installment of this series, we shine light on a dangerous alliance: the unholy union between Netanyahu’s regime and religious figures who have abandoned the sacred call to truth and justice.

For what is more dangerous than a tyrant? A prophet who blesses tyranny in God’s name.

The Rise of the Religious-Political Complex

Netanyahu’s empire has been strategically built not only on military strength and political alliances but on religious endorsement. From ultra-Orthodox rabbis in Israel to evangelical leaders in the United States, there exists a network of religious figures who provide spiritual cover for the policies and actions of his government—even when those actions directly contradict the spirit and teachings of sacred scripture.

This partnership is not incidental. It is deliberate. It’s a calculated pact designed to give the illusion of righteousness to a deeply unrighteous regime.

Twisting Scripture into State Propaganda

Time and again, we see scriptures invoked to justify land seizures, military aggression, and ethnic discrimination. Verses about divine promises to Israel are stripped from their historical and spiritual context and weaponized to excuse the oppression of Palestinians. The result is a theology of domination—a gospel devoid of compassion, humility, or justice.

Netanyahu’s government leans on this distorted theology to justify policies that isolate, humiliate, and destroy lives. And many religious leaders, rather than resisting this distortion, amplify it.

Evangelical preachers proclaim Netanyahu as God’s chosen leader. They speak of “blessing Israel” while ignoring the curses that fall upon the oppressed. Ultra-nationalist rabbis speak of Palestinians as subhuman, unworthy of life or land, and frame genocide as divine justice.

This is not faith—it is blasphemy masquerading as belief.

The Danger of False Prophets

Scripture is filled with warnings about false prophets—those who claim to speak for God but speak lies for power and profit. Jeremiah thundered against them: “They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14).

Jesus warned of wolves in sheep’s clothing, men who appear religious but inwardly serve only themselves (Matthew 7:15). These false prophets exist not only in pulpits but in parliaments, not only in synagogues but in Senate chambers. They pray in public while planning violence in private. They preach peace while supporting war.

They are more dangerous than tyrants, for they make evil appear sacred.

The Corruption of Christian Zionism

One of the most glaring examples of religious complicity in Netanyahu’s empire is the movement known as Christian Zionism. This theological framework, dominant among American evangelicals, interprets the modern state of Israel as a direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy. As a result, they offer unconditional support to Israeli political leaders—regardless of their actions.

To many Christian Zionists, criticizing Israel is equivalent to opposing God. But this perspective ignores the biblical themes of justice, mercy, and the treatment of the stranger and the oppressed. It forgets that Israel’s covenant with God was always conditional—not on land ownership, but on obedience to God’s commands.

Supporting Israel’s right to exist should not mean endorsing its every policy. And blessing Israel should never mean cursing the innocent.

Christian Zionism has become a theological veil that blinds millions to the suffering of Palestinians. It has turned churches into echo chambers for state propaganda. It has replaced Christ’s message of peace with a message of conquest.

This is not Christianity. It is idolatry.

Religious Nationalism: A False God

The fusion of religion and nationalism has birthed one of the most dangerous ideologies of our time. In this worldview, the nation becomes divine, the state becomes sacred, and leaders become messianic figures beyond reproach.

In Israel, this manifests through ultra-Orthodox groups who proclaim divine rights to land while ignoring divine commands to love the neighbor. In America, it manifests through evangelical preachers who treat Netanyahu as a biblical hero while ignoring the blood on his hands.

Religious nationalism distorts the identity of faith communities. It turns prophets into pawns. It makes the cross a flagpole and the Torah a sword. It exchanges the kingdom of God for the kingdom of men.

And in doing so, it paves the way for atrocities to be committed with divine approval.

The Silence of the Moderate Church

While false prophets shout, many true believers remain silent. Moderate churches, afraid of controversy, avoid the topic altogether. They fear being labeled antisemitic or anti-Christian. They choose comfort over conviction.

But silence in the face of injustice is complicity. The church was never called to be politically safe—it was called to be spiritually courageous.

Jesus overturned tables in the temple. The prophets confronted kings. The early disciples defied empires. And yet today, many believers cower before public opinion, choosing peace with power over peace with God.

Where is the modern Amos, crying out, “Let justice roll down like waters”? Where is the new Jeremiah, weeping over cities and calling out corruption?

We need a revival of prophetic voices—not in volume, but in truth.

A Call to Repentance and Righteous Resistance

The church must repent. Religious leaders must repent. All who have used the name of God to justify the actions of Netanyahu’s empire must turn away from their deception.

The way of Jesus is not the way of empire. It is the way of the cross—self-sacrifice, justice, mercy, and truth. It is the way of standing with the oppressed, not the powerful.

To resist the false prophets is to reclaim the true gospel. To reject religious complicity is to honor the holiness of God’s name. To expose the pact between state and sanctuary is to declare that the kingdom of God will not be hijacked by political agendas.

We are called not to bless what God condemns. We are called to be holy—as He is holy.

Conclusion: Exposing the Lie, Embracing the Truth

The alliance between Netanyahu’s empire and religious institutions is not a sign of divine favor—it is a warning. It is a fulfillment of what Scripture foretold: that in the last days, many would fall away, chasing teachings that tickle the ears rather than challenge the soul.

The truth is this: God is not mocked. He sees the pacts made in secret. He hears the prayers used as weapons. He knows when scripture is twisted to justify slaughter.

And He will not remain silent.

The false prophets will be exposed. Their pact will be broken. And those who chose power over purity, profit over prophecy, will answer not only to history—but to Heaven.

Let every believer examine their heart. Let every leader examine their teachings. And let us remember: the truth may be costly, but deception will cost us our souls.
