In the quiet of the heart’s deep sigh,
Forgive, for it lifts the soul on high.
A balm for wounds, a gentle mend,
To ease the pain, to help it end.
But let the memories remain,
For in their shadow, wisdom’s gain.
Disappointments carve their mark,
In the silence, in the dark.
Set boundaries strong, firm, and steadfast,
A guard against the old, new old cast.
Apology accepted, but access denied,
Protect the heart, in strength, abide.
People seldom change their core,
Lessons learned from times before.
Love yourself, stand clear and tall,
Hear the wisdom in their call.
Forgive, but never let it fade,
The lessons learned, the choices made.
In the balance, find your peace,
In self-respect, let worries cease.
For it’s our benefit to forgive,
Yet, in forgetting, we may not live.
Remember well, but harbor not,
The bitterness that time forgot.
So here’s the truth, profound and clear,
Forgive, but hold your boundaries near.
Apology may soothe the regret,
But never forget, never forget.
