No Longer Gullible (Poem)

In days gone by, I took words at face,
Believed every tale, every embrace.
But as the clock ticked on, reality unfurled,
I found myself trapped in a deceptive world.

Surrounded by whispers, by cunning deceivers,
Their schemes and lies are like venomous weavers.
I bore the brunt of their manipulative game,
Left with scars etched deep with shame.

Forgiveness I’ve offered, though scars remain,
Yet memories haunt a relentless chain.
When shadows approach, with their sinister gleam,
I dodge them swiftly, like a fleeting dream.

Once bitten, twice shy, the adage holds true,
Through trials endured, wisdom grew.
No longer the prey of deceit’s vile lure,
I’ve shed the cloak of innocence pure.

If understanding me, you wish to endeavor,
Reach out sincerely, with intentions clever.
But if honesty eludes, if truth’s a foreign tone,
Leave me in peace to walk alone.

For I’ve learned the lessons, hard and keen,
The road to trust is not easily seen.
No longer gullible, no longer blind,
In the realm of deceit, my resolve I find.

So tread with care in this dance of trust,
For sincerity alone, I hold in robust.
If you cannot be forthright in word and deed,
Then leave me be, in solitude, I’ll heed.
